Philip Dizon started the park, due to his
fascination with saltwater and freshwater crocodiles. He was given
accreditation and permit to operate by the government on November 1995. After
10 years, on August 18, 2005, the Davao Crocodile Park was opened to the
public. It is currently owned and operated by a group of businessmen headed by
Mr. Sonny Dizon, a resident of Davao City.
The park also servers as a conservation for
other wildlife animals like raptors, monkeys, bearcats, tigers, leopard cats,
snakes, parrots, turtles, deers, and various reptiles.
The park houses the country's biggest
crocodile in captivity. "Pangil", which means "fangs" is an
18-feet saltwater crocodile, currently holds the title after "Lolong"
died on February 10, 2013. Lolong held the lagest crocodile in world in
captivity measuring 20 ft 3 in and weighed 2,370 lbs is also a saltwater
crocodile.
The Park features a show in the afternoon,
from 4:00 to 4:30 PM, called "The Pangil Encounter", which we were
not able to see because we went there in the morning. The Park also features
other animals on show like the Hornbill, Sea eagle, Parrot, Python, Orangutan,
and "Baby Pangil" where you can take a picture with them.
They also have a Souvenir Shop located near
the exit of the Park, and sells a variety of crocodile leather products, such
as leather wallets, bags, belts, key chains, etc., and local handicrafts. You can also buy snacks
and refreshments, durian products, and local coffee.
